I am a CardioTrainer user and was excited to hear about the heart rate monitor integration. I decided to wait until some reviews were made, but the reviews here seemed very polarized (no pun intended), so I thought I would take a risk since most complaints in the reviews are: 1) lack of integration of existing Polar equipment, 2) Bluetooth issues, and 3) heart rate inaccuracy. Let me address these issues and let you know of my experience with this heart rate monitor. 1)Lack of integration of existing Polar equipment I don't have existing equipment, so this is of no concern for me; however, for those who do have other equipment, you should read the technical details on this page: "Uses Bluetooth transmission." Now I can understand that the WearLink+ name would make you *assume* that it works with other Polar equipment in addition to the Bluetooth, but shame on you... This means it will not work with existing Polaris receivers or other compatible equipment such as treadmills. This means yet another piece of gear to sort through depending on the workout you want. Headed to gym get the standard one, headed for a run get the bluetooth one. I strongly suspect that including the standard transmitter would have added an undetectable weight and reduced battery life from 150 hours to 145. But it would have made it much more useful to have both simultaneously broadcast. The bluetooth connection on this device is implemented as a pair of serial ports. This means only Android phones 2.0 and higher can use this heartrate monitor. For some reason this isn't printed in text anywhere in the product description or on the Worksmart labs website. The bluetooth is everything we come to expect. It will not work at all through the human body. It... I have used it for almost a year now and wouldn't be without. When I received the promo email from Worksmart Labs about the new Heart Rate Monitor integration I immediately went on Amazon and paid for Overnight shipping so I could have it ASAP (As I had been waiting for this feature). WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT. What the people of cardiotrainer fail to mention is that the android device has to be in direct line of sight of the polar wearlink+. It is clearly stated in the Polar wearlink+ instructions that it will not work if if your phone is placed on your back. So if you are like the 95% of cyclists who either keep your phone in your rear jersey pocket or your saddle, this will not work. On my initial ride it immediately showed my heart rate and as soon as I put it in my back pocket it lost the bluetooth signal, therefore not recording heart rate. Once the signal is dropped you have to start your workout all over for it to re-sync with... Read more |
